UPDATE: Sources tell CNET News.com that the announcement will be a pledge from Microsoft to not sue open-source developers. See the full story here.

Microsoft's top brass will hold a teleconference on Thursday morning to make a "significant company announcement" that is unrelated to the takeover attempt of Yahoo.

A media alert sent on Thursday said that CEO Steve Ballmer, Chief Software Architect Ray Ozzie, Senior Vice President of Server and Tools Business Bob Muglia, and General Counsel for Legal and Corporate Affairs Brad Smith will be on the call.

The company did not specify the content of the announcement except to say that it is not related to its proposed multibillion-dollar acquisition of rival Yahoo.

Is Ballmer on the way out.

I sure hope so. I liked MS much more when Bill was CEO. I hope they make Ozzie CEO so I don't have to be ashamed of MS anymore.

Could there be an "announcement" that Microsoft has decided to loosen their end chain (release the Source-Codes) that is restricting the movement/development of the 800lb Gorilla that is "OS/2". This would/should be exciting/spectacular to watch. :-) ;-) :-)

Learn some grammar.

No, it won't be an X-Box with blu-ray guaranteed. Only dumbasses would think that
