Despite Apple's threat, iTunes sells new NBC shows

by Greg Sandoval
UPDATE: Apple said this wouldn't happen, but iTunes is selling NBC's shows for the upcoming season.

Listed at iTunes on Wednesday were episodes of Chuck and Journeyman, two shows that premiered earlier this week.

NBC Universal touched off a public relations war when it announced that it would not renew its contract to sell digital downloads of its TV shows via iTunes. Apple responded by saying it would refuse to offer NBC's shows for the upcoming season.

But don't look for a full rollout of NBC's fall season. The reason that Journeyman and Chuck are showing up is that both shows are produced by companies other than NBC, and Apple is under contract to offer them.

Chuck is produced in part by Warner Bros. Television, and Fox Television produces Journeyman.

Heroes, on the other hand, is produced by Universal Media Studios, NBC Universal's television production unit. New episodes of that series are not available on iTunes.

Representatives from both companies did not respond to requests for comment.

The Unofficial Apple Weblog was first to report this story.

Please do not waste my time with misleading headlines. I expect
better from C/Net. I will retaliate by dropping one of my email
subs for each such occurance in the future -- just so you know I'm
serious.

The real story here, sorry you missed it writer and editor:
It's not that apple is offering these shows, despite their insistence that they would not sell NBC downloads. rather, the story is how childish it is to cancel an entire download lineup, because the other kid took their toys home with them. Such a spoiled brat!

CORRECT HEADLINE SHOULD BE...
by chazzsubscribe September 27, 2007 8:14 PM PDT
"Despite Apple's threat, iTunes sells SOME new NBC shows"

Then we would read the article to find out which ones and why -- and it wouldn't be a dishonest headline.

The current headline IS dishonest, "sells new NBC shows" implies ALL NBC shows.

After 5 years, Firefox faces new challenges

Mozilla helped reshape the Web since releasing Firefox 1.0 five years ago. Now it's got a reawakened Microsoft and Google Chrome to reckon with.

There's a map for that: GPS or smartphone?

Almost every handset comes with mapping software these days, but standalone GPS devices are becoming more affordable than ever.
