Yahoo's social network is here!

Yahoo's rumored social network, dubbed "Mash," has arrived. The company started inviting people outside the company to test it on Friday, the company says in a blog.

Mash is different from other social networks in that you can start profiles for your friends and "open" your own profile to friends you trust, according to the Mash blog. What that means, exactly, is still a bit unclear. You can also reportedly customize your profile or friends' profiles with other apps, ala Facebook.

"One last note before you jump in: Mash is still pretty raw--there are bugs and we haven't gotten to several of the features it really should have. We need to hear from you about where to focus our efforts," writes Will Aldrich, the head of Mash.

TechCrunch has more details and a screenshot here. "Mash appears to (be) Yahoo's way of saying adieu to its existing social network, Yahoo 360, but no word yet on whether the company will actually be shutting down 360," the post says.

"you can start profiles for your friends"
I work really hard to keep my privacy... private.
I hate it when my irresponsible friends just put all of my personal information accessible to everybody!!!
I don't want to have a profile!
I don't want my friends to had all my contact info in their webmail.
I don't want e-cards so that spammers can add my email address.

try it first please.....

dude, Have you even tried it? I have. although I am not a big fan of any social networks i tried and found kind of cool. Perhaps first ever product after flickr and answers that is cool. It lets u select "who" you can allow to edit/view your profiles. so, you can block others outside your frients from seeing your profile.

The social networking meme peaked in growth rate almost a year ago and is entering a period of consolidation and standardization. Unless Yahoo offers a compelling competitive advantage, Mash will found for awhile and then slowly die off.

Its mash of facebook and myspace
by flickrz September 15, 2007 10:31 AM PDT
As the name suggests it is a mash of facebook and myspace. The user can make their pages really beautiful(facebook) or a big myspace(mess). As per would it work; who knows? But, it is definitely worth a try.

I'd like to hopefully get an invite, I've been a member of Yahoo 360 for awhile, and I've been waiting to see if there would be some kind of change or move like this from Yahoo.
