Yahoo adds first woman director to board

Yahoo has named telecom executive Maggie Wilderotter, CEO of Citizens Communications, to its board of directors.

Wilderotter, who oversees the second largest U.S. local exchange telephone company, brings more than her business acumen to the table. Her career has also included stints as a Microsoft executive handling customer and partner efforts for the software giant's government and education markets. She also previously served as CEO of Wink Communications.

Wilderotter brings gender diversity to Yahoo's previously all-male board of directors.

It's been a long time coming. Wilderotter, whose addition expands Yahoo's board to 11 directors, is the first woman director in the company's 12-year-old history. That's rather surprising, given that Yahoo has women in high-ranking positions--most notably Susan Decker, Yahoo president, and considered heir apparent to the CEO post.

But recent events at Yahoo may have had an effect at the board level. Jerry Yang, Yahoo's founder, was recently named CEO, and some suspect change is in the winds.

Here's what Yang had this to say about Wilderotter's appointment in a statement: "With more than 25 years of experience in telephone, wireless, cable television, computers and interactive media, Maggie's broad range of leadership qualifications and proven track record make her an extremely valuable addition to our team."

Move over, boys.

I swear, people who see the world through race / sex / etc colored glasses are so 20th century.

Who cares if Yahoo had no women or their board, or all women on their board? Life isn't fair, its never going to be, and men and women are certainly not interchangeable.

This is not news, its feminist hype...
