Yahoo sites on the fritz Friday morning?
We've been hearing reports of lag and downtime issues involving Yahoo and several of its properties Friday morning: Yahoo's instant messaging client has been on and off, a reader reported that the Flickr photo-sharing site was down (worked fine for me, though) and the Yahoo main home page and Yahoo News portal have been fickle as well. Some CNET editors and writers encountered similar problems when testing the sites out; others found them to be working fine; still others reported unusually slow load times but no downage.
We've put out a request to Yahoo for comment but have not yet received a response.
Last summer, we saw some heat-wave-related server issues, including a high-profile outage at MySpace. Some regions of the country have had some pretty hot days recently, so the root of these issues at Yahoo could be similar.
Let us know if you've had issues with Yahoo services Friday morning.
Caroline McCarthy, a CNET News staff writer, is a downtown Manhattanite happily addicted to social-media tools and restaurant blogs. Her pre-CNET resume includes interning at an IT security firm and brewing cappuccinos. E-mail Caroline.

Glad to know it wasn't just an issue with me, thanks!
North East; it has been down since 7am to about 10:30am 7-6-07.
Was able to get into mail @ 10:30am and so far so good.
Yahoo! on my iPhone.
Composing a blogentry works great, but if you post it:the loading takes forever and it disappears. That is a huge pain in the butt.
IM:the telephone service is out all the time, normally it works great:now it is horrible. What a shame:you are talking and the phone stops. And signing in was very problematic this week.Had to remove all of Yahoo to upload a new messenger:3 times a day.A bit much. Now it works fine again.Tx,for solving that problem.
Have a great,trouble free weekend,Rob.
Thanks for posting this!!
Yahoo, it's always a good idea to be the first to announce a mishap if it was your site that was down. I still see no reports from Yahoo itself!
Now the public has less faith in you!
Things are getting a little better, except now emails I'm expecting
to get aren't coming in.
Hopefully they didn't sacrifice performance for stability! Maybe
good for other things, but not if you are awaiting important email...

Equipment breaks. Give it a rest. If a site is not working for e-
mail or whatever, the only thing you can do is come back later
so why worry. This is worthy of a note on the c-net home page,
not a news story. Inept journalism strikes again. This is the
latest in a long string of crap articles that are nothing more than
either filler or plain old crap.
For the record, I use Yahoo! mail and My Yahoo! and I live by my
news and e-mail.
If you want to avoid this problem in the future, set up a couple
of e-mail accounts and forward mail between them. That way if
a site goes down, you can get to your e-mail on the second or
third site. That is given it is a system problem and not a local
one. Or operator error.
The quality of service in America needs to be revamped!
was logging VERY noticeably. Predictably vague corporate
response: alleged outages, network vendor problem, etc. Still,
disappointed at their untimely, evasive comments.
