AT&T's broadband goes bargain-basement

AT&T over the weekend rolled out its bargain-basement deal for DSL, looking to snare new broadband users with its $10 per month subscription price.

The telecom giant is offering AT&T Yahoo High-Speed Internet to only new customers, which include users who have not been an AT&T Yahoo High Speed Internet, or Bell South High Speed Internet, subscriber for the past 12 months.

The offer, which requires a one-year contract, will be in place until Dec. 29, 2009, and the cost of the $49.99 DSL modem will be waived for new customers who use the rebate.

But as the Associated Press noted, finding the registration form on AT&T's Web site may be as easy as looking for the light switch in a darkened basement.

Users will need to click on the button for "Get DSL at a Dial-up Price," which is under the basic DSL $14.99 heading. From there, users will need to enter their relevant information.

AT&T is having technical difficulties

AT&T apparently is having technical difficulties qualifying
customers for $10 broadband:

We're sorry, but one of our systems is temporarily unavailable.
Our systems are usually available daily from 6 am to midnight
Central Standard time. If you have received this message during
our regular operating hours, we are experiencing technical
difficulties and are working to correct them as quickly as
possible. Please come back to ATT.com at another time or call
us at 1-866-999-6181 Spanish is 1-866-772-6932 Monday
through Friday, 8 am to 6 pm and on Saturday, 8:30 am to 5 pm.

You left out one important bit...

They're not looking to get new customers. They're looking to comply with the conditions of the FCC order approving the ATT-BellSouth merger, which required the $10 DSL service be offered for at least 30 months.

at&t is like rotten lemons,ever since at&t killed cingular ,cell phone service has been totally crappy,at&t can never get their stuff together.....just like throwing waster on a wet oil painting.....

I never understood why people choose to share their opinion of things such as this...just because you had an issue with them doesn't mean everyone has an issue....You are forgetting something Cingular was always AT&T (well SBC) but they been AT&T for well over a year now since cingular bought out AT&T wireless.....and remember it actually isn't AT&T its SBC...they just swapped names...nothing more
Limited bandwidth, limited availability

What they don't say is that the speed is probably in the 384Kbps range. Not bad for the price. Much better than dial-up.

Too bad my area STILL does not have DSL. I use Comcast at 6Mbps and am quite happy with it.

just like last time when they offer $14.95 deal. You can never do it on their site. Must call and deal with sales.
