Paris 2.0: An online plea for sympathy
Oh, goodness.
Paris Hilton, socialite, sometimes actress, singer and heiress to the Hilton hotel fortune, is using the Web to dig up a get-out-of-jail-free card.
PC World reports that a link to this online petition has been posted to her MySpace page. The petition urges California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger to pardon the socialite, who was recently sentenced to 45 days in jail for driving with a suspended license. She has been ordered to report to the Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood, Calif., on June 5.
It's not clear who the source of the petition is, and to describe it as over-the-top would be putting it mildly. A sample of the reasons she should be granted leniency, according to the petition:
--"She provides hope for young people all over the U.S. and the world. She provides beauty and excitement to (most of) our otherwise mundane lives."
--In addition, she "is notable for her leading roles on the FOX reality series The Simple Life and in the remake of the Vincent Price horror classic House of Wax.
--And besides, "Paris Hilton did not hurt, injure, or kill anyone or anything."
It's not clear how many have signed the petition. But Schwarzenegger probably won't be losing much sleep over this one.

People like to say Paris is stupid, but I think she is much smarter than she lets on. She turned her 15 minutes of fame into a sucessful career.
Whomever launched this petiion is as out of touch with reality as the pathetic little starlet wanna-be they are trying to have pardoned. Let's put Ms. Paris on a pubic work detail cleaning up highways for 60 days, with a sign around her neck that says: "I'm a spoiled little drunk driver."
If she's worried about security, let her family pay for a special security detail to guard her!
Or we could simply follow the famous French solution for this sort: "Off with her head!"
go far enough (except for the "off with her head" comment:)).
Forget allowing her to get some sunshine working off her debt to
society, put her in the general population prison for 90 days.
Maybe then she will realize that her arrogance doesn't mean she's
better than anyone else.
If that puts her in danger, so be it. I would face the same dangers
in that position, if I was STUPID enough to get into that position.

- It is a fact that legal consequences are far less for the rich and famous than the rest of us peons.

(8 Comments)They not only are convicted less frequently, but they also draw lower sentences and fines.
I for one, would love to see the people who are supposed to be "examples" for the rest of us start getting MAXIMUM sentences.
