AT&T makes good on HDTV promise
AT&T said Tuesday that it has added high definition capability to its U-verse IPTV service in San Antonio, Texas.
The service launched earlier this year initially only offered standard definition channels. At the time of the launch the company promised to add HD. Now AT&T will offer more than 25 HD channels. AT&T is offering a two month promotion for new HD customers to receive free HD service for two months. After that, the service will be $10 per month.
Using new set-top boxes manufactured by Motorola, AT&T has also added several new features to U-verse service. For example, U-verse now allows access to the digital video recorder via the Web, so customers can schedule recordings using their AT&T Yahoo Internet accounts. The DVR will also allow up to four programs to be recorded at once.
San Antonio was the first city where AT&T launched its U-Verse service. And the company has said it will offer U-verse in 15 to 20 markets by the end of the year.
