The 'Macarena' is now a low-risk Mac OS X virus

by

A new Mac OS X virus named after one of the most annoying songs of all time doesn't pose much of a threat to Mac users, according to security companies Symantec and Sophos.

The Macarena virus is described as a proof-of-concept virus that has yet to infect anyone, as far as Symantec and Sophos have noticed. Symantec gave the virus its lowest risk rating, while a Sophos researcher said "you're more likely to be struck by lightning than troubled by Macarena." That is, unless you're listening to Los Del Rio.

More information can be found on Symantec's Web site. The virus only affects Intel-based Macs, and it is not expected to spread.
