Amazon's Unbox adds Showtime programming
Amazon.com's much-maligned video download service Unbox announced today that it has struck a deal with premium-TV channel Showtime. The network's programming, which includews "The L Word," "Dexter," "Weeds" and "Sleeper Cell," can now be downloaded for $1.99 per episode--the same charged by Apple Computer's iTunes Store, the leader in TV downloads.
As part of a special promotion, the pilot episode of Showtime's newest offering "Dexter," which is not available in the iTunes Store, can be downloaded on UnBox for 1 cent through Oct. 25th.
Unfortunately, the heavily restricted Unbox has not been met with the cheeriest of receptions. Its Windows-only compatibility and faulty player led CNET News.com to name it one of the worst technologies of 2006's third quarter.
