Intel, HP to unveil quad-core chips
Intel and Hewlett-Packard are planning a joint event in Colorado on Nov. 13 to discuss quad-core processors for powerful workstations, according to an invitation distributed by HP Thursday.
It's not clear from the invitation whether the workstations will be available on the 13th, or whether the event will just shed more light on the products. But Intel said at the Intel Developer Forum last month that it plans to have quad-core processors available in November, in line with earlier reports.
HP didn't specify, but it's probably planning to build Clovertown, a quad-core Xeon server processor, into the workstations. Design firms such as PTC and Landmark Engineering will be on hand to likely tout the performance of the new systems for tasks like computer-aided design or engineering applications.
Intel also has announced plans to release a quad-core chip for PCs called Kentsfield in November, just in time to make it onto gamers' holiday shopping lists.
