Mark Cuban's rage against the packaging

by

What annoys Mark Cuban more than NBA referees? Product packaging.

On his blog, the tech entrepreneur and Dallas Mavericks owner detailed a problem most of us have had. You bring home a fun new toy, only to spend hours trying to wrest it free of its plastic packaging.

Cuban's tale includes three pairs of scissors, a knife, bloodied fingers, and a few words we won't reprint on Blogma.

"What is the logic behind making a product impossible to open once you buy it ???????" he fumed on the blog, adding later: "Damn you and any other product manager who thinks wrapping inpenetrable plastic around a product is a smart move. It isn't."

A personal note: If you think tech products are bad, trying breaking a Barbie free.

Blog community response:

"Thank you, Mark, for blazing a bloody trail for the rest of us."

"Trying to open these monstrosities of manufacturing is so dangerous, so fraught with risk that you'd be liable to skewer yourself on the sharp edges once you've started cutting into it, I'm really surprised someone hasn't brought litigation to companies either a) making the stuff or b) companies wrapping their stuff in that stuff."

"I'm thinking we need a UN commisson to look into this because I strongly feel this violates some sort of human rights issue somewhere when we have to shed blood in order to get to our purchases. Or perhaps Homeland Security should look into this. Isn't this the real crisis of our times?"
