Yahoo finance gets new look

by Margaret Kane

Yahoo rolled out a new version of its Finance section Monday, adding interactive stock charts, improved message boards and business-related video clips from content partners.

Yahoo Finance

The site also includes videos from content partners such as ABC, CNN, Forbes and SmartMoney.

Yahoo Finance is one of the more dominant sites in that arena, but it has faced competition recently with the launch of Google's finance site. The Yahoo revamp is also part of wider changes for the site, including a new home page design.

Blog community response:

"It would be interesting to see what kind of countermove it elicits from not only Google, Microsoft and AOL, but from two other main finance sites, CNN Money and MarketWatch, both in desperate need of a major makeover."
--Om Malik

"Having spent a few years working in broking technology, it's clear to me that Google's interactive charting with new overlays still has the edge in terms of its usefulness for actually making investment decisions...but still, Yahoo is getting there."
--Virtual Economics

"Clearly, there was little competitive pressure to change Yahoo Finance, though widespread speculation suggests that these changes were motivated by the introduction of Google Finance. In this instance, Yahoo obviously isn't subscribing to the "if it ain't broke" school of online strategy."
