Star-studded Segway supports climate work
Are you as passionate about saving the environment as you are about watching "Curb Your Enthusiasm"? Then you might want to hop onto eBay and bid for a Segway Human Transporter that's been autographed by former veep Al Gore, as well as Larry David, Cheryl Hines, Rob Reiner, Sharon Stone, Jessica Alba, Daryl Hannah, Amanda Bynes, Ed Begley and Albert Brooks, among other stars.
now up for bid on eBay.
The Segway is an electric, zero-emissions device that has an energy efficiency equivalent to 450 miles per gallon and costs pennies per mile to operate. Segway has sold tens of thousands of the two-wheeled, self-balancing scooters since unveiling them with much fanfare in 2002, but the device has failed to catch on as a common mode of transport in U.S. cities, due in part to concerns about the safety of the scooter on city streets.
The celebs signed the Segway HT at the Los Angeles premiere of Gore's documentary on global warming, "An Inconvenient Truth." Segway donated the unit to help raise awareness for eco-friendly transportation alternatives and to support Climate Crisis' fundraising auction for the Alliance for Climate Protection, a nonprofit climate effort Gore helped launch.
As of about 11:15 a.m. PST on Tuesday, eBay had recorded 73 bids for the signed Segway, with offers topping out at $14,800. For that amount, you'd be well on your way to a fully loaded Prius, but that vehicle wouldn't, of course, have David Duchovny's John Hancock on the body.
