Push e-mail coming this month to Treo 700w
Palm announced Thursday that later this month it will make Microsoft's new push e-mail software available for Treo 700w smart phones.
The Windows Mobile Messaging and Security Pack will soon be available on Palm's site for users to download and install on their Treo 700w, Palm's first product to use Microsoft's Windows Mobile operating system. Microsoft unveiled the software at the start of the 3GSM conference in February. It allows users to have their e-mail "pushed" to them over a wireless network so they can read messages as they arrive at their e-mail server, rather than having to log into that server to retrieve their messages.
Microsoft is chasing companies like Research in Motion and Good Technology in this market. The companies think that the combination of Windows Mobile and Palm's hardware will be a winner with corporate IT departments, but many of those organizations already use RIM's BlackBerry.
