LED light is the platypus of pens

by Shawn Conaway

The LED Writing Light by MyLight Brand Lighting is the platypus of pens. A pen and a flashlight merged together, it looks bizarre with a fat barrel and gigantic bulbous head. The weird design is also its charm.

The waterproof pen is like any other medium-point black ink pen except for the flashlight orb attached on a swivel head. Ever tried following written directions in the dark? This pen is great for reading directions to a new restaurant, for example, then reading the show times for an after-dinner movie.

The Writing Light also can take the place of book light for reading before bed. The solid stainless steel clip can double as a page holder when reading and a bookmark when you're done. The pen can also be clipped to your breast pocket to be used as a hands-free flashlight.

Two LEDs are built into the attached flash light orb. Each LED puts out 8,000 mcd of light, way more than a regular penlight. Since the lamps are LEDs, they will never need to be replaced.

The Writing Light runs about 40 hours on two 3V lithium batteries. It comes in blue and pink. The pen is 5.8 inches by 1.6 inches by 1.6 inches and retails for $9.95.
