Yahoo says 'Let's Groove'

Despite the seemingly lackluster venue (San Mateo Convention Center), Yahoo's holiday party sounds like it was a hip place to be on Friday. The theme was "The Bayou" with appropriate food and decor. The headline band was Earth, Wind & Fire. Who can forget such hip-swinging favorites as "Let's Groove," "September" and "Serpentine Fire," and locking ears during awkward slow dances to "After the Love has Gone?" Well, anyone born after the 70s.

Another highlight of the party, according to sources, was the charity auction. The top prize was a golf outing with former "Seinfeld" creator and star of "Curb Your Enthusiasm" Larry David and Lloyd Braun, a former ABC TV executive who was hired earlier this year to head up Yahoo's Media Group. The winning bid is rumored to have reached $13,000, which a Yahoo spokeswoman declined to confirm.

While Yahooligans were boogying in the South Bay, Googlers flocked north to San Francisco for their annual holiday fete, held in Pier 38, where they dined and danced in four geographically themed rooms--Sao Paulo, Tokyo, Dublin and London. Word is that London was the place to be. A reporter can only dream...
