Apple names new COO

Apple has named Tim Cook, formerly executive vice president of worldwide sales, as its new chief operating officer, reporting directly to CEO Steve Jobs.

Cook will continue to be responsible for all of the company's worldwide sales and operations, and will lead the Macintosh division.

Apple also announced that Jon Rubinstein, senior vice president of the iPod Division will retire on March 31. He will be replaced by Tony Fadell, who will oversee all aspects of iPod engineering. Fadell, formerly vice president of iPod engineering, will also report to Jobs.
