Blog count doubling every five months
If you think blogs and interest in them are hitting a plateau, you better think again. Technorati, a blog search site, says the number of blogs has been doubling every five months for the last three years.
Technorati Founder David Sifry shared that tidbit in a speech today at the Web 2.0 Conference in San Francisco. If that doesn't grab you, try this: 70,000 new blogs are created everyday--that's one a minute.
Sure, it's easy to start a blog. But how many actually stick with it? Just over half of new blogs are active three months later, with 15 percent updated at least once a week, according to Technorati. And the chatter they make is huge--19 million blogs that Technorati tracks generate 1 million posts daily.
China has emerged as a big hot spot in the blogosphere, with the number of blogs in that country growing rapidly, Sifry said.
CNet News.com is trying to get a handle on all this with its first Blog 100 list, which aims to find the best news and views on the Web. The list launched today--take a look.
