New Quark logo not so new to some

The maker of QuarkXPress, the once-standard page-layout program for design professionals, apparently hasn't been minding its Qs and As.

Spot the difference.

On unveiling its new logo earlier this month, the company was promptly confronted by the Scottish Arts Council over similarities with its mark.

And no wonder, though the Quark logo is meant to represent a different letter, you'd hardly know it.

A Quark representative told Macworld that the company had conducted "extensive checks to discover any similar existing logos" but added that Quark "evidently didn't find them all."

The arts council said it trademarked and began using its logo in 2002.
