Google searches blogs

by

Google launched a new blog search feature this week, jumping into a new area of competition among the big Internet companies.

Blog searching has been around for quite a while, but so far has mostly been dominated by smaller companies such as Technorati and PubSub. But bigger names have shown an interest in the market. Yahoo recently began testing blog search technology in Korea.

Regardless of their opinion of Google's new service, bloggers almost all agreed that the launch was bad news for competitors in that market. The search titan seems to have clearly taken the place of Microsoft in the "once the company enters market X, all competitors are finished" model.

Blog community response:

"It looks almost exactly as you'd expect a Google blog search engine to look. It seems functional, if not spectacular, though, it's likely that it will only get better with time."

"Why wow? Because it's so freaking fast. The speed is what kicks all the other blog search in the teeth. Oh, and you can subscribe to a query via RSS. Look at the bottom of the page. Nicely done."
--Scobelizer

"The day that companies like technorati, pubsub and feedster feared more than anything is here lets call it 'G Day'. Personally I think those companies are now dead meat."
--Geek News Central

"Google's perhaps the single company most identitied with search, so their entrance into the blog search space is a big milestone even though the idea of blog search has been around for years."
