Nearly drowning in all the buzz surrounding Google's newly announced IM system, A List Apart went live with a redesign that has been greeted by the blogging community with open arms. The Web magazine has covered Web design, development, and content for the last eight years and has been a strong proponent of development standards in that time.

A List Apart

ALA 4.0 will feature a live conference series, a set of print publications called A Book Apart, a new Ruby on Rails-based publishing system, hand-picked advertisements, as well as a general site redesign featuring better organized articles and the ability to subscribe to discussion threads via RSS (not to mention some really cool t-shirts).

As ALA moves into its fourth incarnation--much more sophisticated as compared to its fledgling state as a simple newsletter--devoted fans took a little time out from the Google craze to celebrate the magazine that taught and inspired many of those doing exciting work in Web design.

Blog community response:

"Designers of the world and standards advocates rejoice, for A List Apart is back. I still remember when I first started caring about the web, standards development and new methodologies, and ALA was the first place I went to looking for relevant information...Now this is what I call web publishing--content for content's sake."

"Kudos to the gang. This site has been a night school to anyone that has the love to do something creative, but didn't know how to. A list apart inspires me, awes me and educates me."

"With this kind of foundation, and the addition of ala??s great content, this site is set to march on into the battlefield of innovation once again."
