iPod car audio system about control
Harman Kardon isn't scheduled to release its "Drive + Play" iPod automobile docking system until fall, but it offered Macworld attendees a sneak preview Tuesday in Boston.

Aimed at giving drivers full iPod control and browsing capability, Drive + Play includes three integrated componets: a backlit LCD screen, large enough to show five lines of iPod menu text; a mountable five-button navigation control unit that mimics the iPod's user interface; and an information processor and connecting port, according to a company statement. The device also charges the iPod when docked and shuts itself off when not in use.
The suggested retail price is about $200, which seems to be the main criticism from those offering early online insights. "How is this different that any of the 50 other integration kits already available?" asked one Engadget reader, in response to a review of the product late last month. An iPodlounge reader, however, said Harman Kardon has a reputation for high quality audio products and likes "the idea of not having my iPod in the sun's UV rays."
The device will be available through the manufacturer's Web site or at other U.S. retailers in September. It will hit the European and Asian marketplaces later this fall.
