NPR drops Audible distribution

The Mac Observer has a good piece giving details on National Public Radio's decision to stop distributing its shows through Audible. A handful of shows, including "Morning Edition," "All Things Considered," and "Wait Wait--Don't Tell Me," have been taken off the Audible playlist as of the end of last week.

According to the Mac site, NPR has had talks with several other distributors, including Apple Computer.

A News.com reader sends in a response from Audible's customer service, which said the company was "just as surprised and upset as our customers." Shows not produced by NPR itself, such as "Fresh Air" and "This American Life" will continue to be available through the Audible system.
