Apple earnings could be revealing

Just how big is that halo?

Apple Computer reports its quarterly results in just a couple of hours and the results could show, among other things, whether the iPod is more than just a crown jewel.

Analysts are hoping to see more evidence that it is also producing a "halo effect" that is translating into higher Mac sales. Several upgrades and downgrades have been made in recent weeks as Wall Street places its bets.

It will also be interesting to see how Apple has done with its two most recent new products -- the Mac Mini and iPod Shuffle.

As for the overall quarter, analysts are looking for per-share earnings of 24 cents and revenue of about $3.2 billion, according to First Call.
