Google hires another Firefox engineer

by Paul Festa

I took some heat, via IM, for yesterday's blog posting about how Greasemonkey author Aaron Boodman was, in fact, a Google employee. Gist of the gripe: By suggesting Boodman's employment by Google might somehow be counted toward the evidence of Google's interest in producing a browser, I was making a mountain out of a molehill.

Let's agree that it's a molehill. Here's another: Google recently hired yet another Mozilla engineer, following Ben Goodger and Darin Fisher.

Google's new browser recruit is Brian Ryner, whom Goodger--the lead Firefox engineer when Google snapped him up--described in his blog as "one of the most crucial elements to the success of Mozilla software over the past few years...invaluable to Gecko development."

With molehills like these, who needs mountains?
