Ex-Credit Suisse exec joins Linux lab's board

Frank J. Fanzilli Jr., a former executive at investment banking firm Credit Suisse First Boston, has joined the board of directors of Open Source Development Labs, a Linux consortium that employs Linus Torvalds among others.

The OSDL, whose members include numerous major computing industry companies, is trying to become the "center of gravity" for the open-source operating system. A CSFB connection is fitting: The firm was an early customer of high-end Linux servers from Egenera and helped underwrite the frenzied VA Linux Systems initial public offering.

Fanzilli was global chief information officer for CSFB and is on the boards Interwoven, CommVault and nLayers. He had been on the PeopleSoft board. OSDL's chairman is Ross Mauri, general manager of e-business on demand at IBM.
