In Internet schoolyard, Yahoo's the copycat
In its desire to be like Google, the Net media powerhouse has bought, built and bulldozed its way into Web search in recent years. Now it has moved on to blogging.
Taking a cue from Google's company Web log, launched in May, Yahoo is trying to reveal the softer side of its executives with a new online diary of its own, called Yahoo Search Blog.
Jeff Weiner, Yahoo's senior vice president of search and marketplace, christened the blog Wednesday with a personal note (marketing memo) that reflects on the company's dedication to search and the site's purpose: "This blog is designed to provide a window into what our team is thinking and doing, in their own words."
Sounds familiar, with a little more corporate polish. From Google Blog in May: "We're going to post stuff here--regular bloggy things...news about Google and our thoughts on whatever random events cross our horizon."
