LA phone home
Los Angeles has been called the city of lost souls, but it could also be the city of lost cell phones.
Approximately 400 cell phones a month, or 4,800 a year, are sent to Los Angeles International Airport's "lost and found" bin, according to a poll commissioned by FusionOne, which makes software that lets users back up and recover data on lost handhelds.
Other airports' lost-phone stats pale in comparison. Chicago Midway only sees 16 lost cell phones a month but has 6,000 in inventory, according to FusionOne. The Atlanta airport finds 50 phones a month.
Airport waiting areas aren't the only travel hazard. Continental Airlines finds about 4,800 left-behind phones a year on their planes, while San Francisco's Yellow Cab Cooperative finds about 60 to 70 phones in the back seat per year. Forty-three percent of mobile users have lost, damaged or had their cell phones stolen at some point, the survey found.
