IPod dresses down

Retropod

With the iPod, we've seen a lot of accessories. There are your average cases, your athletic cases and even your Gucci cases. But one entrepreneur has taken the culture of the iPod to new, ridiculous heights.

Retropod is a case that hides the iPod inside the outer shell of a 1980s-looking Sony Sport Walkman case. It might be a good deterrent against reported iPod-jackings. But the $100 price tag means retro-chic does not come cheap.

There's also a $20 do-it-yourself kit if you still have your old Sports Walkman hanging around. However you also have to have a soldering iron and some mad putting-stuff-together skills.

During her years at CNET News, Ina Fried has changed beats several times, changed genders once, and covered both of the Pirates of Silicon Valley. These days, most of her attention is focused on Microsoft. E-mail Ina.

There's a map for that: GPS or smartphone?

Almost every handset comes with mapping software these days, but standalone GPS devices are becoming more affordable than ever.
