John Kerry released a letter signed by 48 Nobel Prize-winning scientists Monday, urging people to support the Massachusetts senator in his bid for the U.S. presidency.

Even more interesting was word that Kerry invited Hunter Thompson to ride in his motorcade during a fundraising swing through Colorado. I'm trying to imagine that conversation but haven't ingested enough mescaline.

Thompson, reportedly a Kerry supporter who voted for Ralph Nader in 2000, is writing a 2004 sequel to his 1972 classic "Fear and Loathing: On the Campaign Trail."
