T-Mobile customers experience hours-long network outage

Disruption to the carrier's network began around 6 p.m. PT but did not appear to affect all customers.

T-Mobile experienced an hours-long disruption this evening that prevented many of its customers from accessing its data network.

The outage, which seemed to have begun around 6 p.m. PT, did not appear to affect the entire network and was resolved around 9:20 p.m. T-Mobile customers began complaining on Twitter a couple of hours ago about a lack of Internet access:

The wireless carrier confirmed the issue in a tweet this evening and promised to keep customers updated:

That note was followed up a couple hours later that service had been restored:

T-Mobile said it was investigating the cause.

"From approximately 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Pacific time on Monday night, some T-Mobile customers with 3G or 4G devices were not able to initiate a data session, or experienced intermittent data connectivity," a T-Mobile spokesperson said in a statement. "Voice service was not impacted. Rapid response engineering teams quickly identified and resolved the issue and T-Mobile's data service has been fully restored. We apologize for the inconvenience. Engineers are currently investigating the root cause of this interruption."
