Daily Debrief: November debut for HTC's Android-platform phone

In Monday's edition of the Daily Debrief, CNET's Kara Tsuboi and Tom Krazit discuss the long-awaited Google cell phone.

Daily Debrief: One step closer to the Google phone

To be clear, Google is not making any cell phone hardware, but rather, an operating system called Android that will be compatible with a number of manufacturers and carriers. The FCC has just green-lighted handset-maker HTC for a November release of a phone model that they're calling the "Dream."

The idea of this phone has piqued a lot of consumer interest among fans of Google's other products: search, e-mail, docs, you name it. As Krazit explains, don't expect this phone to be a true rival to Apple's iPhone, but rather a midrange, entry-level phone for people who are looking to get into the smartphone market.
