The company has been on an acquisition tear under CEO Marissa Mayer. On Thursday, the technical recruiting startup Distill announced that it was the latest to join the bunch.
According to TechCrunch, which first reported news of the buyout, the company developed a video interviewing and scheduling service that lets employers evaluate the problem-solving prowess of candidates up for technical positions.
It's certainly an area where Yahoo needs help. Advertising in general, one of the company's core businesses, was a sore spot in Yahoo's recent fourth-quarter earning report: Display advertising declined 6 percent compared with the same quarter last year. In 2013, Yahoo lost its spot as the No. 2 digital ad seller in the United States behind Google, when Facebook took its position for the first time, according to the research firm eMarketer.
Yahoo confirmed the acquisition to CNET, adding that Distill's seven-person team will join the company at Yahoo's Sunnyvale, Calif., headquarters next week. The Distill platform will shut down completely by the end of March.
