Keeping Twitter developers happy can be dicey work. So, Jeff Sandquist has a tough job in front of him.
Over the last year or so, the company tightened its controls over what those developing for Twitter's platform can do, in many cases pulling the plug on third-party Twitter clients and often angering developers who felt they had helped make Twitter what it is.
But Twitter is also working hard to streamline its service, making things easier for users and advertisers alike in advance of its expected IPO, which it said last week was now in the works.
That's the environment that Sandquist, formerly the senior director of developer relations at Microsoft, will walk into when he starts on October 14. The new director of platform partnerships at Twitter, Sandquist is taking the slot formerly held by Ryan Sarver, who departed Twitter in late June after four years as part of "the flock."
