Netflix can now count 1 million subscribers in the United Kingdom and Ireland.
Membership ranks hit that number just seven months after the video service debuted in the two countries. Combined, that earned them a record for the fastest growth among all regions worldwide, according to Netflix.
Users are spending more time catching TV shows and movies online, says a YouGov survey commissioned by Netflix. A full 10 percent of people in the U.K. spend at least two hours each day watching their favorite shows via the Internet.
Comedy and drama are the top hits among Netflix members in the U.K. and Ireland, while Sunday is the most popular night for streaming entertainment.
The service is currently available on more than 800 devices, the company said. British customers spend around 565 pounds ($886) each year on new gadgets, making it likely that they can stream Netflix content on at least one of their devices.
Netflix will further expand its horizons abroad. The company plans to unveil its service in Denmark, Sweden, and Finland by the end of the year.
"This membership milestone is evidence that Netflix has rapidly gained popularity in the U.K. and Ireland," Netflix CEO Reed Hastings said in a statement. "Our British and Irish members clearly enjoy the ability to instantly watch a large variety of TV shows and films streaming from Netflix on their favorite devices whenever they want."
