Just days since a YouTube clip went viral showing students in upstate New York bullying a 68-year-old bus monitor, an online fundraiser is nearing the $500,000 mark.
The clip of Karen Klein, being mercilessly tormented on the bus ride home by unseen creatures resembling young humans, went up earlier this week and has logged more than 3.9 million views.
An Internet benefactor from Toronto, Max Sidorov, created a fundraising site to give Klein the "vacation of a lifetime." Klein, who worked as a bus driver in the Greece Central School District for 20 years prior to becoming a monitor three years ago, is said to earn $15,506 a year.
Corrected June 26, 10:20 a.m. PT: This story previously stated that the vacation fund for Klein was started by a family friend. According to the family, online fundraiser Max Sidorov has no connection to Karen Klein.
