For Google, $100M buys a nice campus expansion
The Web giant acquires a new office complex adjacent to its Mountain View headquarters to house its growing staff.
Google reportedly just dropped $100 million on a Mountain View office complex, continuing its real estate expansion almost as fast as it's moving into new businesses and boosting personnel.
The Contra Costa Times reported that the Web giant paid that sum for a 240,000-square-foot office center near its headquarters. A Google spokesman confirmed that it purchased the space, known as The Landmark at Shoreline. But he declined to disclose the purchase price.
"As we continue to hire it's important to find space for our new employees," David Radcliffe, Google's vice president of real estate and workplace services, said in a statement. "The Landmark is strategically situated adjacent to our offices and we look forward to incorporating it into our campus."
The newspaper report said that Mountain View zoning rules would allow Google to employ 960 workers at its new office. The Google spokesman declined to say how many employees would ultimately work there.
A report last month from the Silicon Valley/San Jose Business Journal noted that Google, then, entered escrow to purchase the property.
