MobileMe users are being targeted by a phishing scam.

Users of MobileMe, which automatically sends e-mail, contacts, and calendar events to your computer, iPhone, or iPod, have been receiving a new e-mail that looks like it comes from Apple. It warns that attempts to renew the MobileMe subscription have failed because of a problem with charging the credit card and prompts the recipient to log in and update information on a site that looks legitimate but is not, Macworld reported on Wednesday.

A similar phishing scam targeting MobileMe users was discovered in August, according to Macworld.

Tips for MobileMe users and anyone who does any transactions online include never clicking on links in an e-mail that prompt for financial information and looking for the "https" in the Web address for more secure communication with sites.

Spam control in mobile me is awful in general. My gmail account puts all spam in the spam folder and none gets through. I get about 5 emails a day telling me I've won the lottery on mobile me. Any one got good tips or solutions to this problem?

Stop using Apple products?
Or more generally, stop using crappy products, regardless of who makes them

In the preferences for MobileMe Mail (Online and Desktop) you can change your Junk sittings to automatically move them to the Junk folder.

MobileMe has it's issues, but spam filtering is not one of them. And I would have to say, the Apple Mail junk filtering does a wonderful job as well.

Mobile Me doesn't do spam filtering. Your ME.com email account does.

I have a number of dormant email accounts that I have not used to sign up on web sites. Those email address get no spam, no mail. Now the accounts I have used to sign up for things, can and do get spam. I have an email address (I use it on this site) that is solely used for signing up for things. It gets a lot of spam. My me.com email address has never been used for sign-up and gets no spam.
Use the Mac email to turn on spam filtering. Stop signing up for things using email your regular email account.

@ca5ter
Thanks I turned it on in the mobile me web app preferences now. I really don't see why that isn't turned on by default. Thank you though.

My heart dropped after I read this article. I received an email like this a couple of weeks ago. I just signed on today to change my credit card information. After checking the email again, it does appear to be legitimate. There are no links in the email that I got. It was a nice wake up call. I'm gonna be much more careful from here on out.

We need to change the punishment statutes to where, when caught and convicted, these thieves are hanged by the neck until dead. See how many phishing scams, identity thefts, and viruses we get then!
