Ghost's operating system comes alive
Ghost's OS lets users access their desktop and data from any computer worldwide.
(Credit: Ghost Inc.)In the middle of the desert between Israel and Palestine, Ghost's high-tech Virtual Computer is set to launch Tuesday. After three years of work, Ghost finished the development of its Web-based operating system that uses "cloud computing" to let users access their desktop and data from any computer worldwide.
Ghost, short for Global Hosted Operating System, was founded in 2006 by Zvi Schreiber, whose goal was to create the Virtual Computer that works with third-party Web applications like Google Docs, Zoho, and Flickr and joins them together into one online service and can be accessed from any computer with the Internet. Users can also access their personal desktop, files and applications.
Based in the West Bank town of Ramallah, with a smaller team of employees in the Israeli town of Modiin, Schreiber was interested in creating a company that shows the world that Israelis and Palestinians can work together. Since the Israeli government forbids most travel between Israel and Palestine, the majority of their work is done through phone and video conferencing.
The alpha version of Ghost's Virtual Computer was launched in May 2008 and can be previewed on its Web site. Users can get an extra 10GB when they use the promotion code "launch." To celebrate this accomplishment, Ghost's Palestinian-Israeli team will be joined by former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Tony Blair at Tuesday's launch.

It is cool, I think I did the beta testing for it under a different name before. It did stuff like play MP3 files, etc.
ppls this was not a que to start a political discussion
Um, why that comment? There was no political discussion and likely would not have been.
(though you shouldn't "Comment Jump" like that as it makes it seem like you made the comment BEFORE it happened, in which case your type of comment could lead to the political discussion you thought wasn't appropriate)
Doesn't matter anyway the EU and US are already preparing to make the recognition of a Palestinian state an issue to be brought before the UN. Since the only voting member that has continually shot down those sorts of things, the US, is now not in lock step with Israel, it will most likely pass.
At that point Israel will officially be a foreign invader.
I wonder if my TV had an active Internet connection along with a browser. A PC would just pop up in front of sb's eyes without needing to worry about hardware issues. Excellent work!
No thanks. I'm very happy with my Windows 7 and local apps. If I want to use my browser to go to facebook or read news.com that's all well and good but I really don't want to use web apps while they're anything close to their current state.
Might give it another crack and set it up as a virtual desktop on my iPhone for any files I may not want to carry around, but might want access to.
