Gates foundation sells off Buffett shares

The private foundation lets go of more than 36,000 shares of Berkshire Hathaway, bringing in nearly $100 million.

The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has sold just over 36,000 shares of Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway, according to a regulatory filing.

The organization sold the stock for $99.7 million from January 5 through Thursday.

Buffett, the famed investor, gave $30 billion worth of Berkshire Hathaway stock to the foundation in 2006.

The Gates foundation focuses on health care, poverty reduction, and technology access.
