Zip-up earbuds aim to ease tangle woes

In my many years reviewing portable headphones, I can honestly say I've never seen anything quite like Digital Group Audio's (DGA) Zipbuds. These unique earphones incorporate a zipper that makes up the Y-cable descending from the left and right earpieces.

The idea behind the design is the prevent the incessant tangling that seems to be inherent to earbuds. It actually makes quite a bit of sense: think about trying to tie a strand of zipper into a knot. Probably not the simplest of feats.

More than that, the zipper is actually kind of stylish in the looks department, … Read more

Zipper boat wins the week

As far as we know, the zipper boat is a one-off project by Japanese artist Yasuhiro Suzuki, making its relevance to a consumer technology blog marginally suspect. Problem is, this thing is too creative not to share, especially on a Friday afternoon.

You can read more about the zipper boat on InventorSpot, which includes more details and video. You can also check out the artist's own page here.

Zip multiple pages into one

If you're annoyed by short articles spread over multiple Web pages, Firefox add-on PageZipper will "zip" them into one seamless experience. It will automatically load the next page in a series of links, right below the existing page. It's almost like you have a second tab open, right below the screen you're viewing.

It's not a perfect system, and relies heavily on publishers formatting their content a certain way. For instance, if you're looking at a Flash- or JavaScript-powered slideshow of photos, it won't work. However, to get standard links to open … Read more

Pagezipper kills 'next page' link on long articles

We in the industry often use a little trick to eke out extra page views or to let you see more stories on a single page. Called the page break, it truncates longer articles and requires that you click another link to load up the full version of the story. We use it here quite often because our format is to put a bunch of stories (which can be quite long) on one topic-driven page--Webware, Green Tech, Crave, and so on. This can make the site take longer to load and give your scroll wheel finger quite a workout.

All-in-one earmuff-headphone-goggles

Maybe this is what Oakley had in mind before its sudden lapse in creating the "Medusa Hat."

Von Zipper's "Feenom Goggles" and headphone earmuffs may not score fashion points, but at least they don't look post-apocalyptic. They're also more functional than the Medusa ensemble, especially if you're on the ski slopes.

The whole Feenom set is geared toward active types, according to Book of Joe, with an "articulated helmet hinge" on the goggles and "large fluffy earmuff headphones" meant to stay put in mid-shred. We have no idea … Read more
