Keep writing simple with ZetaWord

There are plenty of word-processing programs on the market, but a new one will always be compared to Word or Notepad. ZetaWord falls somewhere between those two, pairing the look and feel of Notepad with some of the features of Word. However, it fails to eliminate the usefulness of the latter by outperforming the former.

ZetaWord installs easily and has a neat and simple interface with four main links: File, Edit, Tools, and Help. It resembles Notepad but it offers a more pleasant text layout. It doesn't display code that well, though, so it doesn't outperform Notepad there. … Read more

Anonymous drops Zeta threat after return of kidnappee

Ya basta!

Members of the online activist group Anonymous in Mexico have again (and hopefully for good) called off their threat to expose names of associates of the Zetas drug cartel.

Apparently, the cartel returned the Anonymous member whose kidnap allegedly was the catalyst for the OpCartel plan in the first place.

A statement from Anonymous Iberoamerica says the Anonymous member was freed, "although bruised, we can say he is safe and well." But the cartel, reknowned for its violence and brutality, sent a message back that for every name related to the cartel that is disclosed the … Read more

Anonymous online activists threaten Mexican drug cartel

The online collective Anonymous is making threats to a Mexican drug cartel over the alleged kidnapping of one of its activists in Veracruz.

"You made a huge mistake by taking one of us. Release him. And if anything happens to him, you (expletive) will always remember this upcoming November 5th," the group says in a Spanish-language YouTube video that shows buildings being blown up.

November 5 is commonly referred to as Guy Fawkes day in honor of the Brit who tried to blow up parliament in the Gunpowder Plot of 1604. Fawkes was immortalized in the 2006 movie &… Read more

Images of Nokia 700 Zeta leaked

Looks like someone is really terrible at keeping secrets. What look to be official press photos of Nokia's latest smartphone, the Nokia 700 (aka Zeta), just got leaked.

Based on previous rumors, the candybar handset reportedly sports a 1GHz processor, a 3.2-inch AMOLED display, NFC connectivity, and a 5-megapixel camera with an LED flash.

The handset will also be running Symbian Belle, the update to Nokia's Symbian Anna, and will be one of four upcoming phones to feature the new OS.

The Zeta may also be marketed as the "thinnest smartphone ever," according to leaked images of the specifications, but GSM Arena is reporting the thickness of the phone to be just 10mm (less than half an inch). We're guessing this could instead mean that the smartphone will be thinnest ever made by Nokia.

Apart from what's already been leaked online, an anonymous tipster has further informed us that in addition to the white and black models, the Zeta will have three other color variants at launch.

Given Nokia's penchant for red and blue as seen on the recent Nokia devices, we're guessing this may be two of the three available color options for the upcoming smartphone.

California city to get green prefab housing

Zeta Communities broke ground yesterday on a net-zero housing development in Stockton, Calif., the company announced.

The housing community, which will consist of 22 units, is being developed by the nonprofit group Visionary Home Builders of California.

Zeta Communities is known for its affordable, green prefab homes that are constructed using sustainable or recyclable materials at its factory in Sacramento, Calif. Building 90 percent of a home in the factory will cut construction time by 70 percent, according to Zeta.

In the case of the so-called Tierra del Sol community planned for Stockton, the Zeta prefab homes will be 1,… Read more

ZETA to open doors to 'net zero' home

There's a movement afoot to make homes greener, but the impact will be limited if only wealthy people can afford them. Start-up ZETA Communities is trying to expand that movement's reach by making market-priced, "net zero" multifamily homes.

In the next two weeks, the San Francisco-based company expects to complete its first demonstration building, a town house in Oakland, Calif. Using a variety of design choices, such as a passive solar design and very efficient windows, the energy load on the town houses will be 60 percent of what a comparable-size traditional building would require. Solar … Read more
