Yahoo to shut down Xoopit for Gmail users

Yahoo on Friday noted to users of Xoopit that the Gmail integration of its service would soon be disintegrated.

Xoopit, which aggregates media files from users' Gmail accounts, was acquired by Google rival Yahoo in late July and has since been integrated into the company's own Web mail service.

Users of Xoopit will have until November 13 to grab any media from Yahoo's servers, after which it will no longer be available. Doing this is necessary only for users who have deleted the source file from their Gmail account, as Xoopit simply copies over the media, leaving the … Read more

Yahoo confirms it's scooping up Xoopit

Yahoo has agreed to acquire Xoopit, a start-up that helps people share content from their in-boxes with social-networking sites such as Facebook, the Web pioneer confirmed Wednesday.

With the purchase of the San Francisco-based start-up, Yahoo plans to add new photo features to Yahoo Mail, Yahoo Senior Vice President Bryan Lamkin said on a company blog posting:

Yahoo getting close to Xoopit acquisition?

Yahoo is close to acquiring Xoopit, a Firefox extension that works with both Gmail and Yahoo Mail to let people share content from their in-boxes with social networks like Facebook, according to a report in The Wall Street Journal.

Xoopit won the contest at a Yahoo Open Hack developer event in 2008 for building an app that runs on top of Yahoo Mail. The application digs through a person's in-box to reveal photos and other media lurking within, including both attachments and Web addresses that link to sites such as Flickr or Picasa Web Albums.

Xoopit turns Gmail into a gorgeous media browser
