Rare Apple photos: Cook in high school, Jobs back on the job

OK, fanboys and -girls, it's time once again to haul out your digital scrapbooking materials and add to your collection of Apple-related odds and ends.

It's been a fun month for Apple miscellanea. We saw the surfacing of a rare video of Woz circa 1984, which was digitized from a videotape found in a basement. And earlier there was the Fast Company interview with Ying Hang "Hannah" Zhang, the young Starbucks employee who took the "prank" call Steve Jobs made during the unveiling of the iPhone in 2007 ("I'd like to order 4,000 lattes to go, please. … Read more

Woz: I wish iTunes could run on my Android devices

Apple ported iTunes to Windows, so why can't it do the same for Android?

That was just one of the comments made by Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak in a Q&A on tech-news site Slashdot yesterday.

Although he and Steve Jobs built Apple from the ground up, Woz has remained technology neutral, enjoying hardware from a variety of companies and competitors. As an Android device owner, he'd like to see Apple enter that arena as well.

"If you remember, we ported iTunes to Windows," Woz said in a response to one question. "We now … Read more

Woz on Apple Maps: Flaws overblown but still disappointing

Reviews of Apple's Maps have been mixed at best, but problems with the application may not be as bad as they've been made out to be, according to Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak.

Wozniak said he was loving the iPhone 5, but admitted he was slightly disappointed with Apple Maps.

"I tried to navigate somewhere, and I couldn't get to where I wanted to by voice," he told ZDNet Australia. "So, I was a little disappointed, because I love navigation by voice with my Google [Android] phones, actually, since they always get it and are … Read more

Woz: iPhone 45 will mean you won't need humans

I can't get enough of Steve Wozniak.

Fortunately, there's quite a lot of him to go around -- especially when he decides to pronounce on, well, anything that takes his fancy.

The Apple co-founder is currently in Australia, which means he is already clutching an iPhone 5, while you are still dreaming of the moment.

However, while he's there, he's already been expounding on iPhone 45. That's not a typo. That's not iPhone 4S. That's iPhone 45.

I am grateful to Australia's 9 News for telling me that Woz was speaking yesterday … Read more

Woz: I don't have broadband, and I never thought I'd get girls

He went on to explain that broadband in his little part of Los Gatos, Calif., is "a monopoly." You have to get … Read more

Woz concedes Android advantages over iPhone

Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak may have waited in line for the release of new iPhones, but he says there are ways Android has leaped ahead of iPhone.

In an interview with Dan Lyons for the Daily Beast comparing iPhones with Android phones, the Woz laments the limitations of Apple's smartphone.

"My primary phone is the iPhone," the Woz said. "I love the beauty of it. But I wish it did all the things my Android does, I really do."

Did Steve Wozniak get a two-hour iPad start?

Updated 4:21 p.m. PDT Sunday. Readers have contacted me contradicting the idea that Woz got his iPad early. A student from Cupertino with the Twitter handle PyRo1509 tweeted: "I was with Woz all night. He didn't cut in line and he got his Ipad's the same time as Me. 2hr start NO, already had a 3G." All night? Goodness.

It seems that Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak may have jumped an Apple product launch line in a new and most spectacular way Saturday.

I wondered just the other day whether Woz, who had already declared that he had orderedRead more
