Get the most talked about news stories with NewsWhip

It's going to take a lot to break me of my Newser habit. Newser has been my go-to iPhone news app for a while now and I don't see this arrangement ending any time soon. New iOS news app NewsWhip, however, appears to be a worthy challenger. This free, universal iOS app puts a new spin on news aggregation. It delivers the news stories that people are tweeting about and sharing and liking on Facebook. NewsWhip doesn't just look at your friends and followers to deliver the news. No, "each minute NewsWhip scans a billion people … Read more

Wheego showing Life at LA Auto Show

Little-known EV-maker Wheego debuts the 2011 Life--its 100-mile-range electric two-seater--at the 2010 Los Angeles Auto Show this month.

It's the first highway-speed vehicle for Wheego, which launched a similar-looking low-speed electric vehicle called Whip in 2009, around the same time it split from parent company Ruff N Tuff. Since then the Georgia-based e-carmaker has been flying under the radar, albeit unintentionally, while it developed the Life, which has a top speed of 65 mph.

That's huge progress for a start-up with only five employees, and the Life is just the beginning. Wheego president Jeff Boyd says the company … Read more

Restaurant-style whipped cream on demand

Growing up, I thought that the whipped cream we bought in disposable cans at the grocery store was great. That is, I loved it until my grandmother picked up some real cream and took her mixer to it. Fresh whipped cream tastes incredible, especially in comparison to the store-bought stuff. The Mini Cream Whipper makes getting it easier than standing at the counter with a mixer and a bowl of cream indefinitely, though. When filled with cream and fitted with an N20 charger, the canister instantly produces whipped cream. It's the method that many restaurants rely on to provide … Read more

WhipCast app hints at GOP smartphone of choice?

iPhones may be all the rage in tech-crazy Silicon Valley, but if a new political app is any indication, RIM's BlackBerry is at the heart of government.

This time the RIM love comes not from President Obama, who made headlines for trying to hold onto his BlackBerry after being sworn into office, but from across the aisle.

From the office of Republican Whip Eric Cantor comes WhipCast for BlackBerry, a free GOP-focused aggregator for text, pictures, and videos from the House floor. WhipCast monitors such activities as discussions, polling information, and floor schedule updates (which you can also follow on Twitter). … Read more

Wheego looking for dealers to sell Whips

The Wheego Whip, another Neighborhood Electric Vehicle, is expected to hit the streets in May, according to Engadget. That is, if Wheego Wheels can find dealers to sell these low-speed, souped-up golf carts. (I'm not just being mean; company founder Mike McQuary purchased a golf cart company and used its product as a base for the Whip).

Wheego, a division of Ruff & Tuff Electric Vehicles (seriously, that's the parent company name), is taking applications to form a network of 50 dealers. That's a strong goal in a weak economy for a new car that has limited use and range, and not much of a marketing plan. … Read more

More speakers getting into leather

We're not judgmental sorts at Crave, as we believe fully that people should have the right to have whatever gadgets they want behind closed doors. Still, we can't help but wonder what's behind a trend we've detected lately: speakers that are into leather.

They're certainly not the only items to drape themselves in animal hide, of course, but we're curious if there's a particular reason to use leather on speakers--on second thought, perhaps we don't really want to know. In any case, the latest example comes in the form of Audio Pro'… Read more

Gucci does BlackBerry

Karl Lagerfeld isn't the only fashion designer in the world, despite what he might think. And the iPod isn't the only gadget worthy of Seventh Avenue's attention.

Gucci proved both points with its BlackBerry case in oh-so-precious "Guccisima" leather--which, according to Shiny Shiny, may translate roughly to "by giving it a pretentious name we're able to charge more for it."
