TwitPic snared by Google's malware detector

Google's Web site malware checker identified TwitPic as a security threat today, a classification that has the popular photo site baffled.

Instead of the usual archiving and sharing tools they are used to, users attempting to visit TwitPic today are being greeted by a message informing them that the site has been blocked because "visiting it now is very likely to infect your computer with malware."

TwitPic denied on Twitter that it was a malware threat and said it was trying to contact Google to resolve the issue:

MetroTwit app hits Windows 8 store

The Twitter client MetroTwit is now a full-fledged Metro app available free through Microsoft's Windows store.

MetroTwit users who install the app in the Windows 8 Release Preview will find it similar in many ways to its Windows desktop counterpart.

The app starts off by displaying a column for your traditional Twitter timeline. Clicking on a tweet opens an app bar at the bottom of the screen with a variety of options. TwitVid renamed Telly to show off video-discovery focus

TwitVid, a service that was once considered the "TwitPic of video," has been rebranded as Telly.

The company announced the switch on its Twitter feed today, saying that it was "extremely excited to introduce you to our new name and experience." Under the new name, Telly will continue to allow users to collect and share videos with friends.

Watch out, TwitPic: MMS to Twitter now in U.K.

Twitter announced on its blog late Monday that users who want to submit pictures to the social network from their mobile phones can now do so through MMS. There's just one catch: it's only available to Orange UK subscribers.

According to Twitter, Orange UK users can send picture messages to Twitter's "86444" number. They need only to snap a picture, choose "Send via MMS", and input the number. You can now post pics to Twitter from Picnik

Picnik has a new and simple way of distributing photos you've just edited in your browser. Using application programming interfaces from Photobucket's TwitGoo photo-hosting service and Twitter, it lets you compose a tweet that includes a link to the photo right inside of the editor.

TwitPub invents paid Twitter accounts

This was bound to happen: Someone has invented a paid access scheme for Twitter. TwitPub is a marketplace where Twitterers can sell access to their updates, by registering their protected accounts with the service. Other Twitter users sign up and pay for access to these accounts on the TwitPub marketplace. TwitPub takes 20 percent of the subscription revenue for itself and gives 80 percent to its publishers.
