Dead Trigger 1.1.1 Review

With great graphics and exciting gameplay, this game seems to be one of the most popular action games on the Google Play store. Dead Trigger combines a first-person shooter with social media and strategy gaming. It offers a fully immersive environment with high levels of action.

The first thing we noticed when installing Dead Trigger is the size of the application. The size will vary depending on the device, but since we tested it on a Samsung Galaxy Nexus our file was over 120MB. With a file of that magnitude the device should be plugged into the wall and connected … Read more

Video Game Orchestra: Castlevania at the symphony

While most classical concert halls deliver the best of Mozart, Beethoven, or Bach, the Boston-based Video Game Orchestra plays tunes from the annals of beloved franchises such as Final Fantasy, Metal Gear Solid, Castlevania, and others.

The eclectic musical group -- which weaves a Mannheim Steamroller-esque synthesis of classical music and a rock -- played to a packed house yesterday at the Boston Symphony Hall and completed a major milestone on Kickstarter by generating $40,000 in donations to launch an album recorded from the performance. … Read more

Android comes under fire from game developers on piracy

Madfinger Games recently lowered the price of its Dead Trigger game from $0.99 to free on the Google Play Store. The reason, it announced, was because of the "unbelievably high" amount of illegal downloads on Google's Android devices despite the game's inexpensive price, according to the Guardian.

Here's what Madfinger Games said on its Dead Trigger Facebook page:

Regarding price drop. HERE is our statement. The main reason: piracy rate on Android devices, that was unbelievably high. At first we intend to make this game available for as many people as possible - that'… Read more

How to play sounds using a computer keyboard

Though it's a sad comment on humanity, apps that play sound effects (preferably crude ones) are a popular source of entertainment. It's in our DNA. I'll bet that early cavemen invented the whoopee cushion before they mastered fire.

But if your sound effect needs are beyond the scope of your garden variety flatulence app, there's an excellent and free piece of software out there called SoundPlant that allows you transform any Mac or PC into a custom soundboard.

Honestly, the idea for this How To came to me as I was walking through my local Halloween … Read more

An Ohio judge dismissed a private antitrust case brought against Google by a tiny company that runs an online shopping comparison search engine.

The suit gained prominence because small company, myTriggers, was being represented by Rick Rule and his prominent Washington, D.C., law firm, Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft. Rule has long been a key Microsoft lawyer on antitrust matters.

His representing a tiny Web company in an Ohio state court--as well as a small New York firm, Tradecomet, which filed a separate private antitrust case against Google--led Google to, at one point, accuse Microsoft of trawling for complaints against … Read more

Google could find itself the target of two separate antitrust probes launched by Ohio and Wisconsin, according to a story published today by Bloomberg.

The future of iPhone games

With the release of "2012," the iPhone app tied to the forthcoming Sony Pictures film of the same name, a group of developers may have kicked off the future of games on the hit smartphone.

While the game itself is fairly simple and lasts just minutes, it incorporates features that may never have been tried before, and as such, could be among the small number of titles that are showcasing what will soon be considered par for the course.

In the minds of many industry observers, thanks to its integration of a functional operating system, an accelerometer, GPS … Read more

Square Enix pulls rug from under Chrono sequel

Let's say you're interested in getting together with a few people and creating a video game. Now let's say said game is a sequel to a known, copyrighted property and you'd be using assets from the original game. Logic dictates at this point that you'd get permission from the copyright owner doesn't it?

Last week, Square Enix, maker of the original Chrono Trigger--an RPG originally released for the SNES in 1995 that garnered a huge cult following--sent a cease-and-desist letter (PDF) to a team of developers who'd been working on a "… Read more
