Theft happens. Someone I know very well just had her phone plucked right out of her zippered purse on a crowded bus.
Bummer, right? When something like this happens, you feel pretty helpless. It's not like your stolen device can "phone home" to tell you where it ended up.
Actually, it can, if you've installed some kind of tracking app/service. Apple's excellent Find My Phone allows for remote tracking, data erasure, and more, and there are similar apps for Android. Ah, but laptops? You probably think your only tracking option is something like Absolute … Read more
The US military spends a lot of time and money training world-class snipers, which could be why it's started to look into the use of computerized rifles that can make anybody a sharpshooter.
The Army has announced that it made its first purchase of six high-tech rifle kits from smart rifle-maker Tracking Point. The goal is to "begin exploring purported key target acquisition and aiming technologies," said Alton Stewart, the Army's Program Executive Office spokesman.

A newly published European patent application from Samsung details a method for controlling a smartphone through what basically amounts to head tracking with a front-facing camera. And while there's no indication in the document or from Samsung itself when or where we might first see this tech put in place (many innovations get patented but never become publicly available), intomobile points out that the application was filed in July, not too long after the release of the Galaxy S4, so it could be part of an R&D iteration cycle in preparation for creating a successor.… Read more
Motorsport is getting safer and safer but it has and always will have an element of danger to it. Some say that's why both the spectators and the participants love it. Some race tracks have proven to be more dangerous than others though. We've listed the 10 that have claimed the most lives to date.
Imola didn't make this list, incidentally. Although it will always be remembered as the scene of that horrible weekend the sport lost both Roland Ratzenberger and Ayrton Senna it has not claimed nearly as many lives as the rest of this list.… Read more
