LG joins Telus Mobility's growing lineup of Android phones this week with the release of the Shine Plus. Available for as low as $69.99 with a three-year commitment, the handset looks nearly identical to Verizon's Allyreleased back in May. Details include Android 2.1, a 3.2-inch WVGA touch screen, a sliding QWERTY keyboard, and support for 3G and Wi-Fi. The only noticeable difference between it and its U.S. counterpart is the Shine Plus comes with a slightly better 5-megapixel camera.

Canadian telecommunication provider Telus is now offering its TV programming through Microsoft's Xbox 360.

The service, which was launched on Wednesday in neighboring provinces Alberta and British Columbia, makes use of Microsoft's Mediaroom software for delivering live TV content without the need for a coaxial connection or any special hardware.

This software is not yet built-in to the Xbox 360's system software, nor is it available through the Xbox Live Marketplace as a download. Instead, it runs off a disc supplied by Telus. Users also need to be paid Telus Optik TV subscribers to access its programming. … Read more

Canadian Google Android fans got more good news this week when Motorola announced a trio of handsets were headed north of the border. The three phones--the Quench (known as the Cliq XT south of the border), Backflip, and Dext (aka the Cliq in the U.S.)--each run Motorola's Motoblur user interface on top of Android. The smartphones are scheduled to arrive sometime within the first half of this year.

Many Canadians are cheering as Telus and Bell announced plans Tuesday to begin selling Apple's popular iPhone, ending Rogers reign as the exclusive iPhone carrier in Canada.

After completing a $1 billion upgrade so its network could support high-speed packet access (HSPA) used by the iPhone, Bell and Telus will both begin offering the iPhone in November, the companies said in separate statements.

Neither company provided any further details on pricing or an exact launch date for the device in Canada. Both companies will offer the iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS, according to the statements.
